"He could pick up a stick of wood in the forest and make music." -Lorne Brown, founder of The Ballad Project and editor of The Canadian Folk Music Bulletin "The finest young Celtic musician I have heard!" -Dan Laxer, CJAD Radio, Montreal Born in Toronto and now living in St. John's, Newfoundland, Duncan Cameron has performed across North America and Europe.  His strong vocals help to tell the stories told in Celtic songs, while his arrangements add intricacies of rhythm, harmony and counter-melody. He plays twelve instruments including fiddle, guitar, whistles, bodhrán, and Irish bouzouki.  His up-beat jigs and reels, traditional songs (in both French and English), and sense of humour make each performance memorable. Duncan's solo album The Whistling Thief (released in 2000) features his own compositions and arrangements of traditional songs and instrumentals from Ireland, Scotland and Canada. Duncan is also a member of The Pierre Schryer Band, whose Blue Drag CD was nominated for the "Best Roots/Traditional Album of the Year" Juno Award in 2004.  His own group, Fig For A Kiss, was nominated in 2006 for "Best Instrumental Group" for The Canadian Folk Music Awards for its debut CD, Fallen Leaf.  Duncan was raised in a musical family.  As an infant he was taken to folk clubs, festivals, and storytelling events, and at six years old, he began to learn his first instrument:  the fiddle.  He began performing at age ten after his family moved to Sudbury, Ontario.  The Cameron Family entertained at Ontario festivals and folk clubs with music, stories and mummers' plays.  Duncan inherited a passion for great traditional ballads from his late father, Stewart Cameron.  In his teens he learned to play many of the instruments his father had played. In his twenties, Duncan moved to Toronto where he contributed as a composer, recording artist and performer to many bands, theatre groups and dance companies.  He toured with Celtic rock group Enter the Haggis, the Canadian folk trio Tamarack, and French-Canadian fiddler Pierre Schryer.  He was a member of the cast of the Mirvish theatrical production of Needfire (with Mary Jane Lamond and John McDermott) in 1998, and the Drayton theatre productions of Cotton Patch Gospel (2006) and Sorry ... I'm Canadian (2006-2008).  Duncan also performed songs from the play Sorry ... I'm Canadian as well as the music of Pierre Schryer in symphonic arrangements with the orchestras of Kitchener, Thunder Bay, London (Ontario) and Winnipeg. Relocating to St. John's, NL, in 2009 has provided opportunities for Duncan to play with local musicians including Saddle Hill (bluegrass), Alison Corbett (singer-songwriter) and the lively traditional Newfoundland band The Irish Descendants. In addition, he continues to work on music for his next solo CD.
